CRAFT BREW ASIA

Craft Brew Asia is a Singapore registered society and a non-profit organisation run by a diverse and dedicated committee who will increase awareness of, assist and promote the full spectrum of the Craft Brew trade to similarly like-minded people and business.

Our membership and associates have interests stretching all the way across the Craft Brew chain from the start of the brewing process through to the responsible consumption of the end-product.

Homebrewing

As part of the club's efforts to support craft beer, we also give our members the opportunity to see, try and taste what brewing beer is all about.

Demonstrations

The club started to offer homebrew demos in 2017, starting with extract / partial mash and moving on to all-grain. We hope to do a few demos each year to introduce members to what it takes to brew your own beer.

Community brews

Not everyone can or wants to buy their own kit to brew at home. It's kind of expensive to buy, it takes up a lot of space and a brew can tie up the kitchen for a day. So the club decided to run community brew days ~ once a month. Kit and fermentation space provided, ingredients and bottles at the groups own cost.

Tasting

Whether it's on a brew day or at a dedicated session, we try different craft beers and homebrew beers to better understand what our ingredients and processes do to the finished product. Most Partner Venues at our monthly catchups permit us to take some homebrewed bottles along.

Grain-to-Glass Series

Reviving Homebrewing Sessions post-Covid on 26th August 2023

CBA finally restarted homebrewing session since the last one way back in November 2019 pre-covid days.

The session was led and taught by our very own Andy Malcolm and Brett Pover who took top accolades at the iBrew Challenge 2023.

Grain-2-Glass session is for the curious craft beer enthusiast looking to understand and to engage in the hop and yeast conversations. Participants got to undergo a 1-day all-in-one system brewing experience covering:

  • Setting up equipment,

  • Weighing ingredients,

  • Crushing grains,

  • Mashing,

  • Boiling,

  • Hop additions,

  • Cooling and transfer to fermenter.

On this Brew Day, we decided on a Pumpkin Porter and a Marzen ~ which would be ready in October in time for appropriately Halloween and Oktoberfest where CBA is planning to organise an event for members to taste the fruits of the day’s labor!

We started the day early with guidance from our 2 award winning home brewers Andy and Brett

The Hoptimist question: Is your Brewzilla half full or half empty?

Andy’s Masterclass on how to work the Brewzilla Gen 4….

Getting some help from the BrewFather tool to spec out the parameters…

Grains for the Marzen ~ the attendees chewed through all the grains to get an idea of the flavours they contribute to the beer…

After mashing and batch sparging, the brew is underway with the bittering Hallertau hops….

Getting all that malty goodness into the Fermzilla for fermentation..

And finally, some neutral, high temp fermentation beast…. yeast to get the Marzen fermentation underway…
